Once upon a time, in the not-so-far-away land of my youth, I had an accident that left me with a torn disc in my back. This wasn’t just any old injury; it was the kind that haunts you for over 15 years, with recovery times stretching into months. Despite my best efforts – from yoga to cortisone shots, chiropractic care to dry needling – nothing provided lasting relief. The diagnosis? Degenerative disc disease. A label that sounded more like a life sentence.

Fast forward 12 years, and my sciatica had become a constant, unwelcome companion. I avoided opiates like the plague, thanks to a wise soul who warned me of their dangers. And then, something remarkable happened. The most bizarre thing I noticed looking back that everyone saying they could cure me with physio, chiro, injections, dry needling had actually never had sciatica themselves or cured anyone permanently. Ask yourself, when was the last time I met someone who had sciatica and managed to completely get rid of it? I was getting advice from people that truly did not know what I was going through.

The Plant-Based Epiphany

Inspired by a documentary (shout out to Netflix’s “What the Health”), I decided to experiment with a vegetarian diet for unrelated reasons. To my utter shock, within three days, my sciatica was almost non-existent. As I transitioned to a mostly plant-based diet, cutting out processed foods and animal products, my sciatica vanished. Six years later, I’m still sciatica free. Plus, I lost weight and got fitter, which I feel also reduced the pressure on my back.
